EnerGaia signs agreement to build its first algae facility in Thailand

Rice millAyutthaya, Thailand  September 15, 2010 -- EnerGaia Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to develop its first algae facility. It will be located at the Nakornluang Rice Mill in Thailand and will use wastewater generated by the rice mill and a portion of the CO2 emitted by rice husk furnaces to grow algae for local aquaculture feed.

According to the Thailand Board of Investment, this project will be one of the first of its kind in the Kingdom.

EnerGaia will start with a small demonstration facility in order to validate its process while treating the effluent specifically generated by this mill. Effective wastewater treatment is of primary concern for Nakornluang and they are very excited about this partnership. Once the system has been calibrated to meet Nakomluang’s water treatment requirements, EnerGaia will scale-up the facility to handle all of the mill’s effluent. Construction is expected to begin in early October.  It is anticipated that this entire process will take approximately 6 months.

Several Thai companies in other sectors with wastewater and/or CO2 emissions issues have also expressed an interest in using EnerGaia’s technology.
