EnerGaia expresses formal intent to develop CDM project using algae in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand  December 15, 2009 -- Per the policies and procedures of the UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), EnerGaia Co., Ltd. formally notified the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) on November 30th, 2009 of its intention to develop a CDM project in the Kingdom.

 

This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by recycling the exhaust CO2 emitted from a biomass boiler using EnerGaia’s microalgal photo-bioreactor technology.  The TGO is the Designated National Authority (DNA) of the CDM for Thailand.

 

On December 8, 2009 the TGO formally recognized EnerGaia’s intention and informed them of the next steps in the CDM process

 

 

About EnerGaia Co., Ltd.

EnerGaia Co., Ltd. (www.energaia.com) was founded in April 2009 as a social enterprise based in Bangkok, Thailand.  EnerGaia specializes in using microalgae to recycle CO2 emissions and treat wastewater from industrial sources such as power plants, biomass facilities, breweries, and refineries.  The microalgae that is harvested from EnerGaia’s closed-system photo-bioreactors are then sold as useful products such as animal feed and direct human consumable items.

 

About the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO)

TGO (www.tgo.or.th) is the newly established autonomous Thai governmental organization given the specific purpose to act as an implementing agency on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in Thailand by: promoting low carbon activities; supporting investment in and marketing on GHG emissions reduction efforts; establishing a GHG information centre; reviewing CDM projects for approval; providing capacity development and outreach for CDM stakeholders; and particularly performing its role as the Designated National Authority for the CDM (DNA-CDM) office in Thailand.
